Filter Brush

Filter Brush is one of the most widely used and trusted biological filter media for fish pond and koi pond filtration systems, and for very good reason. In a typical filter installation, multiple filter brushes are hung vertically in the first chamber of the filter system, creating a dense matrix of bristles through which the pond water must flow. As water passes through the brush matrix, suspended particles including fish waste, uneaten feed fragments and algae are physically trapped by the bristles, while the enormous surface area of the bristles themselves provides colonization sites for the beneficial nitrifying bacteria that convert ammonia and nitrite into safer nitrate.

How to use Filter Brushes:

Install multiple filter brushes in the first settlement chamber of your filter system by hanging them vertically on rods or bars across the chamber opening. Space them close together to create a dense barrier through which all pond water must flow. Clean periodically by lifting each brush out of the filter chamber and shaking vigorously in a bucket of pond water removed during a water change. Never rinse in tap water as chlorine will destroy the beneficial bacteria colonizing the bristles. Replace if bristles become too compressed or matted to allow adequate water flow.
