Faro 69 Rice Seeds | 25kg

Faro 69 Rice Seeds, also known as “Swarna,” is a widely cultivated rice variety in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. It was developed to meet the demands of rice farmers for a high-yielding, disease-resistant, and adaptable variety.

Below is a detailed explanation of FARO 69 rice seeds:

Botanical Characteristics of Faro 69 Rice Seeds:

• Type: FARO 69 is an Oryza sativa indica variety, meaning it is part of the long-grain, tropical rice group.
• Grain Size: The grains are medium to long, with a slender shape, which is preferred in many local markets.

Maturity Period of Faro 69 Rice Seeds:

• Growth Duration: FARO 69 typically takes 130 to 150 days to reach full maturity. This period is slightly longer than some other varieties, but the extended growing season allows the plants to develop more fully, contributing to higher yields.
• Suitable Planting Season: It is suitable for both the wet and dry seasons, although it performs best when planted at the beginning of the rainy season or in areas with reliable irrigation.

Grain Quality:

• Non-Aromatic: FARO 69 is non-aromatic, which means it does not have the fragrance associated with some specialty rice varieties.
• Cooking Quality: The grains of FARO 69 have a good texture when cooked, making them suitable for a wide range of dishes. They are not prone to breakage during milling, which helps maintain high milling recovery.
• Marketability: Its grain quality makes FARO 69 a popular choice for both local consumption and market sales, as it meets the consumer preference for long, slender grains.

Disease and Pest Resistance:

• Blast Resistance: FARO 69 is resistant to rice blast, a common and destructive fungal disease that can significantly reduce rice yields.
• Bacterial Leaf Blight: It also has good resistance to bacterial leaf blight, another major disease affecting rice crops in tropical regions.
• Pest Management: While FARO 69 is resilient against diseases, farmers should still practice integrated pest management (IPM) to protect the crop from pests such as rice stem borers and leafhoppers.

Environmental Adaptability:

• Rainfed and Irrigated Conditions: It can thrive under both rainfed and irrigated conditions, although proper water management is crucial to achieving the best yields.

Water Management:

• Flood Tolerance: While it is not a flood-tolerant variety, FARO 69 can manage moderate waterlogged conditions. Proper drainage is necessary to prevent prolonged flooding, which can affect the yield.
• Irrigation: In irrigated systems, consistent water supply during the critical stages of growth (such as tillering and flowering) is essential for maximizing yield.

Harvesting:

• Timely Harvest: Delayed harvesting can lead to grain shattering and quality deterioration.
• Post-Harvest Handling: Proper drying and storage techniques are essential to prevent grain spoilage and maintain quality.

Challenges:

• Water Management: Proper water management is crucial, as FARO 69 is sensitive to both drought and prolonged waterlogging.
