1. HIGH DEMAND AND CONSUMER PREFERENCE: Most people prefer goat meat due to availability and taste majorly coupled with other factors such as cost and taste. It has been estimated by the ministry of agriculture that about 22,000 goats are consumed daily in Nigeria.
2. RAW MATERIALS: Goat skins as one popular raw material can be dried and tanned like leather and used in a number of products, including goatskin gloves. Goat hides (with hair still intact) are traditionally used to make drum heads. Goatskin rugs can also be made. The average goat gestation lasts 150 days, so a female goat could have two deliveries per year. If you’re thinking of breeding goats, prepare yourself for an average of two kids per pregnancy. While that’s the average, one to three kids per birth is perfectly normal.
In addition the Goats not only produce neater pelletized droppings, but their manure doesn’t typically attract insects or burn plants as does manure from cows or horses. Goat manure is virtually odourless and is beneficial for the soil.
